CONSTRUCTION LABORER

REPORTS TO: PROJECT MANAGER/SUPERINTENDENT

LOCATION:  VARIOUS

Position Summary:

Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction projects. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials. May assist with other craft workers when needed or assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Safe operation of hand and power tools.

  • Preparation and clean up of jobsite areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Read and interpret plans, instructions and specifications to determine work activities.

  • Have knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in construction work.

  • Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

  • Ability to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

  • Maintain a clean work area: pick up tools and equipment and secure work area each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.

Work Context:

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat, humidity, and exposure to dust and dirt.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or move an object.

  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, town hands) and multi-limb coordination.

  • Noise level is generally loud.

  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.

  • Excellent stamina is required.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.

  • Performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to: strips and cleans concrete forms, pours concrete, finishes and maintains good housekeeping and safety regulations on the shop floor.

  • Maintain a clean work area: pick up all tools and equipment and secure work area each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.

  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, as well as sit, stand or walk for long periods of time throughout the day.

  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts in a manufacturing facility.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must have experience as a Skilled Laborer

  • Must pass mandatory Physical Examination and Pre-Employment Drug Screen.

  • Must have good attendance and ability to work within a team environment.

  • Knowledge of basic tools (tape measures and string line) and their uses.

  • Must have a 10 hour valid OSHA card.
